Here's our new home

We've been in Davis for almost 2 weeks now. Still getting the last of the boxes unpacked and learning all the ins and outs of our new town. I've never been to a place with so many friendly people. You go out walking or anywhere and just about everyone you pass says hi. James and I have made a couple of friends at the a near by park that we can meet up with at the park any day of the week we want to have someone to play with. I think we all are falling in love with this place.

The biggest draw back of our apartment is it is around 200 square feet smaller than our last one. We've lost a lot of storage space and our bedroom is quite a bit smaller. Though with the bad there's some good things. The bathroom is bigger than our last place, though we only have one now. Having that 1/2 bathroom sure came in handy at times. The kitchen is a bit bigger and laid out better. And we have a washer and dryer. We've been making it work and it really is a great place. We just need to get a storage unit for Tracy's camping gear and other various things, like decorations, we had in closets before.

The living room.

Behind the couch on the left is our patio.
Right now our patio is a bit of a storage area.
View of the kitchen from the living room.

The dinning room.
This room still need a bit of work.
We still have boxes in here either needing to go into storage or be unpacked.
Most of them are on the far right of the picture and you can't really see them.
The kitchen with a naked boy who wouldn't move out of the picture.
The kitchen has tile counter tops which is a pain to clean.
I'm sure not going to want to roll dough out on it.
I'll have to come up with a plan to make it easier to clean.
 The hallway.
The door on the left is the heater/ac unit. The 2nd door on the left that is open is James' room.
The one on the right is a closet. You can't see it but the bathroom door is past the book shelf.
Our bedroom in straight ahead. The hall curves a bit and the front door is at the end.
In between the bathroom door and our bedroom door is the washer and dryer closet.
The bathroom looking in from the hall way.

That door opens into our room.
Right now we can't open it because Tracy's dresser is in the way.
James' room looking in from the hall.
All of James' toys fit in here. Yay!
His train table might get moved out to the dinning room,
but it may not stay there since the crib will be going in there.
 Our bedroom.
Our massive bed takes up the whole room, but there's no way we'll part from it. Once Tracy gets some help he'll move the bed closer to the windows a couple of inches. Then his dresser will fit next to the bed and will no longer be blocking the door to the bathroom. And maybe it will even make it so we can get our door closed. Some (not going to mention who, both of us) didn't check whether or not the door could be opened and closed when the bed was assembled.

Now my favorite part. LOL! The washer and dryer.
The first day here I did a load and we ended up with water all over the floor. There was a piece that connects the hose to the washer that was broken. So the water drain onto the floor and not into the drain. Since it got fixed then I have done several loads and they work wonders. So nice not having to go to a shared laundry room and feed the machines quarters.

So there's our new apartment. Our complex is really nice lots of trees. Our apartment is in the shade almost all day long. Great for the electric bill. Every Friday at the club house they have free food. Last week they had quesodillas for lunch. Tomorrow they'll have a cereal bar for breakfast and I think next week is chili and cornbread lunch. We also have a pool and BBQ areas. We're also about a 15 min walk to 2 parks. Davis has lots of parks and green belts. Yeah, Davis is a great place.

Are we there yet?

The road seems to go on forever when you are staring at the same truck towing a black car with the top speed of 60 mph (mostly going 55mph) the whole time.  Well, almost the whole time I did ditch him for a bit. It took us 10 hours to get to Davis. Google maps says it takes 6 ½ hours, so a major time difference.

I did learn a couple of things on the way north:
  • Truck drivers don’t really like it if you purposely drive slow with them. I only did that to give Tracy a chance to catch up after I ditched him.
  • James doesn’t get annoyed with the “Are we there yet?” question. He willingly answers, “Nope, not yet,” every single time. Though, I only asked about 4 or 5 times, so he didn’t have really have a chance to get annoyed.
  • After driving for over 9 hours don’t get too excited when you see a sign stating you only have about 30 miles left because those 30 miles will take forever. Also, try not to have a meltdown when you see another sign that says you have about 20 miles left when you feel like you've gone far more than 10 miles.
  • Sometimes radio stations play the perfect song at the perfect time. Philips, Philips "Home" came on just as we reached the Davis city limits. I bawled. Thanks radio station.
We spent the night at the local motel 6, then picked up our keys the next morning. We were very lucky to have two guys from our new ward come and help us move in. The truck was unloaded in about an hour and I hardly had to haul in anything.

So far we are getting settled. Once we get our apartment all situated I'll post some pictures.

Saying Goodbye to Riverside

Thursday September 4th, we said good bye to Riverside. We had the moving truck all loaded up. Thanks to help from a couple of members of the Elders Quorum and 4 missionaries. Thus far everything was going on as planned without too much problems.  I cleaned the apartment as best as I could being pregnant and not feeling the best. We finished up the cleaning and loading Thursday morning, though we left almost 2 hours behind schedule.  I’ll admit I did shed some tears as I vacuumed the last bit of the living room and again as we drove away.

Here's the post about when we first moved in with pictures of our apartment.

One last picture before driving away.
Our apartment was the one on the corner.
We really loved that place. We will surely miss it and all our friends we left behind.
