And we have standing...

James pulled himself up to stand today. Once again he has mastered a gross motor skill right before his well visit. It seems like each time we've gone the doctor has said if he's not so such and such by the next time, then it will be time to worry and possibly send him to a specialist. Well, thanks James for waiting till the last minute to do things, but at least you're advanced in your fine motor skills or this mom would completely go crazy with worry.

Since you like to make my life interesting by waiting till the last minute. I guess I'll have to wait till July for you to walk.

Another Little Camping Trip

Well, being married to a Paleontologist, there will probably never be a shortage of camping trips for us. Joe headed out early Friday with his dad to San Rafael Swell in search for swim tracks. We joined him Friday night. Then, Saturday morning we met up with my sister and her family and off we went for a day of adventure. The main purpose for this trip was so Joe could find more swim tracks and measure the ones at Capitol Reef for his current research project. I already posted a bunch of the pictures on Facebook and since most of my readers are my friends on there I'm just going to post a few on here.

Saturday:
Saw Crystal Geyser by Green River

Lunch at Hole N' The Rock in Moab

Visited the Dinosaur Museum in Blanding
We also saw some Native American Cave Dwellings in Blanding, but Joe didn't take any pictures while we were there.
Searching for Swim Tracks by Bear's Ears
 Sunday:
Visited Natural Bridges National Monument

Drove Past Lake Powell. Some day we'll go back for a visit.

Stopped at Capitol Reef, so Joe can do measurements on the Swim Tracks there.
James and I played in the dirt while Joe worked.
Once again, it was nice to get away for the weekend. We had a good time, though Joe didn't find any of the swim tracks that he was looking for.

Another hair cut

and this time it isn't my hair getting cut. It was James' turn. It wasn't his first hair cut. His first was done shortly after his birthday by his grandma. She just did a little trim, so this time was his first major hair cut. For some reason I came up with the idea of doing it myself since I have hair clippers. It took me a couple of days to gain enough courage to give it a try. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with cutting hair. After all, if it looked terrible I can get it fixed. So, out came the clippers, comb, and spray bottle and away I went. James' hair turned out better then I thought it would, except it ended up a lot shorter then I wanted. I should have look into how long the hair ends up with the different clipper setting. It still turned out cute, though I'm still 3 days later having mixed feelings about it.

Here are some things I've learned:

  • Cutting hair all the same length really isn't that hard. Just run the clippers all over the head and bam you're done.
  • Settings on the clippers look longer then when the hair is actually cut. Setting 5 is really short!
  • Make sure your kid has plenty to play with, so he doesn't try to grab the clippers (maybe a second person to distract him would be a better idea)
  • Little ones don't hold still at all, no matter what you do. You've got to be fast!
  • Hair sticks to clothing. Strip your kid down before hand or have him wear something that isn't going to be his outfit for the day, so that there isn't hair all over him all day long.
